"The
Master Family purchased a 380 Hectare woodlot in Lanark Highlands near
Flower Station in 2003. Previous owners had logged about 30% of the
property in late 1990's leaving only scattered few trees. The remaining
70% of the forest shows signs of logging between 40 and 60 years ago.
Successive logging over the past 200 years has considerably changed the
species composition of this forest. As current owners, we would like to
restore this forest to as close to pre-European settlement as
possible, keeping in mind that projected climate change may not allow
for this. The knowledge gained from sampling and monitoring using the
Vegetation
Sampling Protocol will guide our
management decisions towards enhanced biodiversity and
restoration of old growth characteristics."
