Searching and Navigating the Map
1. Choose a Topic Tab
Each tab at the top (e.g., UF Departments, UF Policies, Inventories, Professionals) represents a different urban forestry theme.
Start by selecting the topic you want to explore.
2. Select a Province or Municipality (Top Right)
Use the province and municipality drop‑downs in the top‑right corner to filter the dashboard geographically.
When you change the province, the map, pie chart, and bar chart all update automatically to show results only for that province.
When you select a specific municipality, the graphs and map refine again to reflect that single community.
This is the main control that drives the entire dashboard’s visual updates.
3. Use the Left Panel for Topic‑Specific Filters
The left panel lists attributes related to the selected topic (e.g., department types, presence of policies, inventory characteristics).
These are binary indicators
1 = Yes / Present
0 = No / Absent
Selecting these filters further narrows the map and graphs to municipalities that meet those criteria.
4. Interact With the Map
The map responds to all filters. You can zoom, pan, and click markers to see details for individual municipalities.
5. Read the Summary Charts
The pie and bar charts on the right update with every selection, giving you a quick snapshot of:
The distribution of departments or attributes
The number of municipalities that meet your criteria

| Data Sources Maps contain the open data layers - Census Subdivision (CSD) and Population Centre (POPCTR) available from Statistics Canada for the Census year 2021. The Census Subdivision Boundary File, 2021 contains the boundaries of all census subdivisions (municipalities) which combined cover all of Canada. The Population Centre Boundary File, 2021 contains the population centre boundaries for which census data are disseminated. The population data used in this project are from the 2021 Census of Population. |
